*******IPAC Responds to LP, Critics On Delta Government, Gboreveori’s, Okowa’s Defection To APC
By Victor Bieni, Asaba
The Chairman, Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Delta State Chapter, Prince Henry Eze, has thrown his weight behind the recent defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a move that will foster peace, political harmony, and accelerated development in the state.
Shocknaija Media (News Online) learnt this today being Thursday, May 1, 2025 in a press conference held at the group’s secretariat in Asaba, Delta State capital.
Prince Eze who was flanked by members of the council stated that, “the defections were not totally unexpected” as he cited months of speculation, policy signals, and unresolved internal crises within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the national level.
In a unanimous decision at the press conference in Asaba, the group stated as follows: “That Governor Oborevwori’s decision to align with the federal government under President Bola Tinubu was a strategic masterstroke aimed at ensuring Delta State benefits from federal projects, investments, and national partnerships”.
“That the seamless integration of Governor Oborevwori into the APC fold, formalized with Vice President Kashim Shettima’s reception in Asaba, had strengthened the party and created a more cohesive political structure in Delta State”.
“That all political parties remain vital to the democratic process, stating that the peaceful political transition without an election underscores the maturity of Delta’s political landscape. The history of power rotation among Delta’s three senatorial districts since 1999 remains a model of political cooperation for the rest of Nigeria”.
“That on the future of governance in the state, we express optimism, that Governor Oborevwori’s inclusive leadership style accommodating youths, women, non-indigenes, and multiple political parties must be sustained to preserve unity and drive further progress. We urge the Governor to balance the interests of original APC members and new entrants from the PDP to maintain stability ahead of the 2027 political season”.
“We respond and Condemn some criticisms from some quarters, particularly the Labour Party, which described the defections as a waste of resources. We dismiss the claims that, the mass turnout at the Cenotaph during the defection ceremony was proof of widespread public support for the political realignment”.
“We called on all political stakeholders across party lines to place Delta’s peace, unity, and development above personal ambitions, assuring that IPAC will continue to promote dialogue and cooperation among all registered parties in the state. We conclude by urging Deltans to embrace the new APC-led political arrangement and work together with the Oborevwori administration for the greater good of Delta State”.
