As part of efforts to contribute positively towards deepening the domestication of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Security Sector,The Pioneer President, ICONIC Friends Club Asaba, High Chief Ezechinedu Obodo has enjoined the inmates during today’s visit at the Nigerian Correctional Centre ( Former known as Nigerian Prisons) at Ogwashi-uku to turn over a new leaf and ensure that they come out as repented citizens, not as hardened criminals.
The media learnt this today being Thursday, 16th December, 2021 in Ogwashi-Uku from the Pioneer President of ICONIC friends Club, Asaba, High Chief Ezechinedu Obodo alongside his Executive Council as group gave some technical and financial support to the inmates.
ICONIC Friends Club Asaba gave some financial support to Ogwashi-Uku Inmates and some items which included amongst others: 5 rolls of tissue paper, 2 Cartons of toothpaste, 4 Cartons of B29 Washing Soap, 1 Carton of Lux Bathing Soap, 6 bags of Sunlight Washing Soap, while promising to provide some legal services to the inmates to look into some of their cases.
This legal support according to the group will reduce the rising number of inmates from it’s current state that has reached a total of 822 as the time of the visit.
The group Pioneer President while sympathizing with rhe inmates restated commitment to UN SDGs Development in the Security sector, then promised to from time to time pay a visit to them.
The Community cum humanitarian Services event was highly attended by the Executive Council of ICONIC friends Club, Asaba alongside the Pioneer President, High Chief Ezechinedu Obodo and Engr. Osas Ibuzugbe (Vice President), Samuel Ayuwe ( Secretary General), Hon. Barr. Paul Uwaechue (Legal Adviser), Sir Uche Nwaoha ( Organizing Sec), Patrick Banks,
Frank Nwaebo, Hon Nduka omodon,
Blessing Azumuko harped on given more support to the inmates for their effective and efficient rehabilitation.
ICONIC Friends Club Asaba is a social club was formed by influential, well respected, distinguished men and women in the society with sister body called ICONIC Ladies Asaba which was recently inaugurated on 13th June 2021 to support humanity and domesticate various United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Delta State and Nigeria in general.
According to the Pioneer President, High Chief Ezechinedu Obodo, the vision of the Club is mainly to promote harmonious co-existence amongst members of the group and the society at large. Also, that the group’s mission is to function as closely knitted friends in common pursuit of societal excellence.
The group’s Pioneer President, High Chief Ezechinedu Obodo alongside the group’s Legal Adviser, Hon. Barr. Paul Uwaechue, then enjoined the inmates to trust in God, and ensure that they learn new things, entrepreneurial skills and be well equipped to face the society as better persons, repented citizens, and not as hardened criminals; but with hearts full of repentance as Christians to be integrated fully to the society.
The Prison officers, Warders who received the gifts items provided to the inmates were very glad while thanking the group for their support to the inmates. One of the inmates the media learnt has been in prison custody for over twelve years for alleged kidnapping case who would not want his name mentioned said he was a victim of circumstance but he thank God for everything and still praying to God that one day, him some other of his colleagues would regain their freedom from the prison custody.
The inmates, then prayed for God’s divine provision, protection, and blessings for the members of the group, while thanking the Leadership of ICONIC Friends Club, Asaba for their show of love, provision of mental, social, psychological, technical support to him and colleagues, who are in social isolation and confinement.
The inmates also, appealed to the group to do more for them by supporting in the area of getting a new cooking utensils ( Cooking Pots), Lawn Mower for cutting grasses, Refrigerator for preserving their food stuffs.
