NIDO Africa Chairman Praises Delta Governor, But Criticizes Aides for Underperformance
Ikeja, Lagos- Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has received accolades for his performance in office from Professor Jude Osakwe, Continental Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) Africa. Speaking to reporters at the recently concluded NIDO Africa National Summit on Export Promotion of Made in Nigeria Products and Services held in Ikeja, Lagos State, Professor Osakwe commended the Governor’s efforts, promising to leverage his network to attract investments to Delta State in collaboration with other Deltans.
“The Governor is doing a great job in the State,” Professor Osakwe stated. “We will work with Deltans to bring investment and contribute to the progress we are seeing.”
However, the praise was tempered by a strong critique of those serving under the Governor. Professor Osakwe expressed concerns that many Commissioners and Heads of Agencies are underperforming, hindering the government’s overall progress. He accused some appointed officials of prioritizing personal gain over leaving a positive legacy for the Oborevwori administration.
“Most of these appointees are just there for their own benefit, without considering the legacies this government will be remembered for,” he asserted.
The NIDO Africa Chairman urged Governor Oborevwori to ensure that “square pegs are placed in square holes” to foster greater progress in Delta State. He emphasized the importance of creating an enabling environment for Diasporans and other investors to thrive. He also called on public officers to prioritize the interests of the State over personal enrichment and avoid obstructing potential investors with demands for gratification.
“For Diasporans to draw investment to the State, there should be an enabling environment. Public officers should prioritize what will benefit the State and not close doors on investors by seeking gratifications before doing their jobs,” Professor Osakwe concluded. His remarks highlight the critical role of government officials in attracting investment and realizing the full potential of Delta State. While the Governor’s leadership is being recognized, concerns linger about the effectiveness of his team and the need for improved governance to unlock Delta State’s full potential and attract much-needed investment.
